Words Into Action
Benenden Community Shop aims to be the heart of the community.
For many people the shop provides an essential lifeline, for others, it is valued as a convenience which would be sorely missed. Some will discover something new.
Most importantly, the entire business is run by the community for the community. The store is staffed with professional management, supported by volunteers.
Benenden Community Shop Limited has over 300 shareholders who, together, have invested over £70,000.
Their investment supported the refit of the original Village shop premises with counters, chillers, and other equipment together with the purchase of initial stock.
The shop was moved to temporary premises during the refit and re-opened just 3 weeks ago. The refitted shop now incorporates a coffee shop with seating for approx. 20 people which is proving a huge hit with the residents and makes the shop the real hub of the community, a place where people can meet their neighbours and friends and a new ‘local’ post office which has insured the continuation of the service in the village.
The shop group have been meticulous in their approach to ‘Branding’. Ensuring their ‘Brand’ colour (dark purple) is consistent in the shop signage, website, printed material and even the shop clock. Also the same font is used on everything, including the letter ‘B’ in chocolate sprinkles on the cappuccino coffee!
All in all this is a beautifully presented and professional operation that all involved should be very proud of.
